The Underwood GT Magnet Elementary School Foundation is a volunteer-run nonprofit that funds the teachers, specialists, and programs that make Underwood special.
To maintain the excellence of Underwood's school program by supporting initiatives that recruit and retain quality teachers, enable and strengthen instructional programming, and sustain the educational environment.
Our story
In 2014, state and city budget cuts put Underwood's teachers and magnet programs at risk. A group of Underwood parents decided not to wait and see. They formed the Foundation so the school community could protect what makes Underwood work, year after year.
How funding reaches Underwood
Every gift is put to work for the school, through a simple process the board follows each year.
1
The school shares its needs
Each spring, Underwood's principal shares the programs and positions the school wants to strengthen for the coming year.
2
The board reviews and votes
Our volunteer directors review each request and vote on how Foundation funds will be used.
3
Funds go to Underwood
The Foundation usually makes one gift at the end of each school year, so the school can plan for the next one.

New to Underwood?
PTA or Foundation? Here's the difference.
You'll hear from both, and both matter. Underwood has kept its magnet programming strong through years of budget cuts because families support the PTA and the Foundation, each in its own way.
The short version: the PTA funds the extras you can see and touch. The Foundation funds the people who teach, and Underwood's future.
